Cochise College was ranked second best community college in Arizona, according to a study by schools.com publicized in an article on their website last month.
The study ranked all 19 designated state community colleges and one tribal college in Arizona. Phoenix College took the top spot with Cochise College coming in second. The college was applauded for its affordability, coming in first place overall in this area. Cochise College ranked third for online enrollment and graduation rate.
According to schools.com, the study used a five-point scale based on the seven data points: percentage of students enrolled in distance education, cost, student-to-faculty ratio, average retention rate, graduation rate, transfer-out-rate and a flexibility score.
The college was also commended for its research in economics.
“Since 1995, Cochise College has been gathering, analyzing and forecasting data from the Center for Economic Research,” schools.com noted. “The center works to help educate regional residents on economic concepts at the local, state and national levels, as well as interfacing with local leaders to foster a climate of well-informed economic decisions in its home county.”
The results reflect progress on the college’s strategic priorities.
“One of our strategic initiatives is to be student-centered and to strive for student success,” said Dr. J.D. Rottweiler, Cochise College president. “We are honored to receive this recognition validating the hard work of our faculty and staff on our mission to meet these goals.”
Schools.com used the U.S. Department of Education and the National Center for Education Statistics as the source for most of the data in the study. According to its website, schools.com is a resource for education information, providing educational content to current and prospective students.
