2012-2013 Scholarships: Apply Jan. 2 - Feb. 27, 2012

Beginning January 2, you can apply online for scholarships from the Cochise College Foundation. The deadline to apply is Feb. 27, 2012, and scholarships will be awarded for the 2012-2013 academic year. Qualification criteria include financial need, academic performance, program of study, or some combination of qualifications specified by donors.

The STARS application system will match you up with the Cochise College Foundation scholarships for which you qualify based on your responses to a questionnaire.

It is helpful if you do a few things in advance:

obtain your unofficial transcripts so that they can be uploaded at the time you apply
write or brainstorm throughtful responses to short-essay questions: 1) Describe your academic and career goals; 2) Describe your financial situation and how a scholarship will help; and 3) Discuss your extracurricular or leadership activities.

Because many scholarships require documented evidence of financial need, you should also plan to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) before April 2 and to register for fall 2012 by May 11.

Hint: Many applicants do not qualify for scholarships for the simple reason that they have not completed the application. When you reach the screen where STARS recommends scholarships for which you may qualify, be sure to read this section and follow the instructions to further verify your qualifications for each recommended scholarship.

Timeline
The scholarships you apply for through the STARS system now will be awarded for the 2012-2013 school year.

• Application Period - Through Feb. 27, 2012
• Review/Selection – Through April 20, 2012
• Recipients/Cash Office Notification – Mid-June, 2012
• Scholarships Awarded – After July 1, 2012

Award Notification and Thank You Letters
Scholarship applicants will be notified by email of their application status. Notifications will be sent to the email address you provide on the application, preferably your Cochise College email address.

If you are notified that you have been selected to receive a scholarship, your scholarship funds will be awarded upon receipt of a thank you letter to the scholarship donor; the notification will include a deadline. Recipients who do not submit thank you letters forfeit their scholarship/s to another qualified applicant. Click here for letter-writing tips.

Other Scholarships
New scholarships that can be awarded outside of this application period occasionally become available and are announced through the myCochise portal. Contact the Financial Aid Office to apply for the Erwin Fry Foundation Scholarship and scholarships from other organizations.
