Freshman Amezquita breaks school 3-point record

IMG_9676Cochise College freshman women’s basketball player Destiny Amezquita broke the school record for most 3-point field goals in a season with 104 during a standout year with the Apaches.

The guard from San Antonio, Texas, led Cochise in scoring and was named Freshman of the Year by the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. She also earned First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region Division I honors.

The 104 3-pointers she made this season bested the previous record of 97, set in 1998-99 by Valarie Antone and tied by Elrolica Chopito in 1999-2000.

The women’s basketball team finished the 2013-14 season with an 18-11 overall record and 13-9 in a competitive Arizona Community College Athletic Conference, just missing the postseason tournament.
