Cochise baseball takes two from UA Club


IMG_1297DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team swept University of Arizona Club in a nonconference doubleheader Sunday afternoon on the Douglas Campus, winning game one 6-2 and the second 17-2.

Nick Borowski earned the win for Cochise in the first game, giving up just one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four over six innings. At the plate, Gerardo Arzaga and James Stroud each went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

In game two, Cochise jumped out to an early lead with seven runs in the first three innings, another in the fifth and nine more in the seventh on the way to the rout. The Apaches combined for 13 hits, with Austin Nelson going 3 for 5, Jason Sanez 2 for 5 and Jayson Hicks 2 for 4 with five RBIs.

The wins improve the Apaches’ record to 28-20 overall as they head into the final four conference doubleheaders of the season. Cochise hosts Arizona Western on Tuesday for a noon doubleheader. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
