Cochise bats come alive in split with Yavapai

IMG_1344PRESCOTT — The Cochise College baseball team split against Yavapai College in a doubleheader Saturday, dropping the first game 7-1 and winning the second 14-11.

Xavier Altamirano took the loss in game one, allowing seven runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out three in four innings. At the plate for Cochise, Darick Hall was 2 for 3.

Game two was a battle of offenses, with the teams combining for 28 hits, eight for extra bases. Hall went 3 for 6, including a home run, with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Nick Borowski, Jake Luna and Jason Sanez each had two hits and two RBIs. Cochise was up 7-0 at the end of the second inning, tacked on a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings, and put the game away with five runs in the seventh.

The split improves the Apaches’ overall record to 23-19 with six conference doubleheaders left in the season. Tuesday’s game against South Mountain is postponed due to a water main break on the Douglas Campus.
