HON 140 History and Lessons of the Holocaust (3)

Prerequisite(s): ENG 101, RDG 122 or exemption, 12 credits completed at Cochise College, minimum 3.5 GPA, and permission of Honors Committee.

Recommended Preparation: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in HIS 111, HIS 242, PSY 101, PSY 250, PSY 290, SOC 101, SOC 160, or SOC 202.

An in-depth inquiry into the history and implications of the Holocaust designed to increase civic engagement and to promote leadership and public presentation skills. Focus in on the origins and the various manifestations of prejudice in societies around the world, with special emphasis on the causes and consequences of the Holocaust and on the potential for future genocides. Students conduct extensive historical research and serve as project leaders in the following capacities: designing and administering surveys to measure discrimination among public school and college students, and developing presentations to foster tolerance by increasing awareness.

2 hours lecture, 3 hours applied learning.
