Cochise College soccer has enjoyed much success since the program's inception in 1998. Last season, the team qualified for the ACCAC playoffs for the eighth consecutive year. The 2006 Apaches became the fifth Cochise team in the last five seasons to reach at least the NJCAA Region 1 semi-finals. This is the program's third year under Head Coach Chris Bermingham. Assistant Coach John Pearson returns for his second season, and is joined by fellow Assistant Coach Mike Connors. Coach Connors comes to the Apache program from Southern California where he last coached. The 2007 season holds much promise. Joining ten returning sophomores are nine incoming freshmen. The team begins with a challenging road schedule which features eight of the first nine matches being played in enemy territory. Cochise will then enjoy hosting seven of the final nine matches at Apache field. The Cochise Soccer program recruits players from Cochise County, all over Arizona, and other western states. The 2007 team also features three international players as well. Current players hail from Canada, Colorado, California, New Mexico and Arizona. Individual success amongst players is eclipsed only by what they go on to accomplish as former players once they have moved on. Apache players have been named as NJCAA All-Americans, NJCAA First-team All-region team players, as well as, numerous ACCAC first and second teams. Four former Cochise players have also played in the Women's Professional Soccer League. Currently, former Cochise players can be found on the rosters of NCAA Division I, D-II, and NAIA schools such as Washburn (3), Belmont Abbey, Fort Lewis, Idaho State Univ., Lincoln Memorial Univ., and Northwest Univ. Cochise College is an environment that fosters athletic, academic, and personal growth through the game of soccer. Players interested in furthering their soccer career while pursuing a college degree would do well to consider the Apache program.
