Summary of Benefits for Full-Time Employees

SICK LEAVE
 All Employees

Accrual begins on date of hire. Can use as accrued after 30 days.

No cost to employee.

1 day per month (3.7 hours per pay period).

Eligible after 12 months continuous employment. Employee must have worked a minimum of 1250 hours for Cochise College prior to the qualifying event.

Health insurance premium 
for employee is paid by the College.

Other optional benefits (except disability) paid by employee.

Up to 12 weeks for qualifying event of employee or family member.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

Eligible on date of hire.

No cost to employee.

Up to 4 consecutive days at any one time for immediate family members. May also be used to attend funeral or service due to the death of a colleague or family member of a colleague.

HOLIDAYS

Eligible on date of hire.

No cost to employee.

Nineteen days per year (NOTE: Faculty have those days which fall within the academic calendar.)

JURY DUTY

Eligible on date of hire.

No cost to employee.

Employee shall be excused from work with pay while serving on jury duty according to provisions of Board Policy.

COURT APPEARANCE

Eligible on date of hire.

No cost to employee.

An employee will be excused with pay for a court appearance when subpoenaed as a witness in a case not involving employee's personal business.

OPTIONAL GROUP TERM ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT INSURANCE

Paid by employee. Premium amount is based on age of employee and level of coverage selected.

Employee may purchase additional amounts of term life insurance and voluntary accidental death and dismemberment.

SHORT-TERM DISABILITY

Fortis Insurance

First day of month after Board approval.

Premium cost is dependent upon salary level of employee. No cost to employee.

After 60 calendar days of disability, benefit is 66% of base monthly pay. Benefit available only after all paid sick leave is exhausted.

LONG-TERM DISABILITY

VPA (ASRS)

First day of month after Board approval.

.5% of gross pay. Mandatory contribution matched by the College.

After 180 calendar days of disability.

ARIZONA STATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM

All employees are enrolled on date of hire.

Employee contributes 8.95% of gross earnings. Mandatory contribution matched by the College.

Defined benefit pension. Determined by years of service and earnings.

8 hours earned per fiscal year for personal leave to be used in the fiscal year it is accrued. Two of three personal days deducted from sick leave.

MILITARY LEAVE

Eligible on date of hire.

No cost to employee.

Short term only: Regular compensation if leave occurs during normal work week period and hours. Accompanied by military orders.

COBRA

Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act

Eligible on date of hire under current guidelines as described under COBRA.

Paid by qualified beneficiary.

Continue medical, dental and/or vision coverage for a maximum of 18 months.

TAX SHELTERED ANNUITY (403B) AND DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN (457)

Eligible on date of hire.

Employee may divert portion of salary to TSA. Amount limited by the IRS.

Benefit determined by growth of annuity fund. Becomes taxable upon withdrawal.

WORKERS COMPENSATION

Eligible on date of hire.

No cost to employee.

Follows state law related to workers compensation injuries.

SABBATICAL LEAVE
Faculty/Admin Support

Employee with seven or more consecutive years of service.

No cost to employee.

Receive pay for 2/3 the annual salary for one full school year.

TUITION EXEMPTION FOR COCHISE COLLEGE COURSES

Eligible on date of hire.

Appropriate registration and lab fees based on enrollment in specific courses.

Employee may receive up to 9 units per semester and dependents receive an unlimited amount of units per semester for enrollment in Cochise College courses only.
Tuition exemption shall be allowed at the regular in-state tuition rate only. Online classes shall require spouses and dependent children, as defined by IRS, to pay 50% of the tuition of an online class.

SICK LEAVE PAYOUT Eligible at age 55 plus 10 years of service and meet the requirements for full retirement in the Arizona State Retirement System. No cost to employee. 15+ years:
 75% = 396 hours

12-15 years:
 60% = 216 hours

10-11 years:
 50% = 120 hours

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH 
Faculty

Eligible on date of hire.

Additional coursework/ education.

Salary increase equivalent to 1 grade per 15 approved units.

DEPENDENT CARE FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT

First date after board approval.

Minimum contribution: $100.00
Maximum contribution: $5000.00

Employees may have funds deducted from their paycheck on a pretax basis to cover out of pocket expenses related to dependent care. Call Human Resources for more information.

MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENT FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT

First date after board approval.

Minimum contribution: $100.00
Maximum contribution: $2400.00

Employees may have funds deducted from their paycheck on a pretax basis to cover out of pocket expenses related to medical, dental, vision, or other health related expenses for the employee and/or their dependents. Call Human Resources for more information.
AVESIS OPTIONAL VISION INSURANCE First day of month after board approval. Employee only $6.57, Employee + spouse $12.35, Employee + child(ren) $13.54, Employee + family $17.74 per month. Employees may elect for this insurance on a self pay basis by payroll deduction. The College does not contribute to this benefit. See benefit materials for detailed coverage available.
