TelecommunicationsCochise College has a state-of-the-art networked telephone system using Nortel Meridian Option 11 switches on each one of our campuses. Two switches were installed on the Sierra Vista Campus; three on the Douglas Campus and a Mini-Option 11 switch was installed on the Benson Center. We also have increased our telephone throughput capacity with more clear connections, digital capability for some users, and a solid and reliable voicemail system that allows users to better manage their phone messages from a centralized, enterprise-supported location. The College has a toll-free number and two local numbers mapped to the switchboard operator. During business hours, the operator provides assistance in routing calls for users as needed while an automated attendant routes calls after business hours. The numbers are:
Our networked telephone system has a single point of entry and exit for caller identification service, with 23 channels for voice and one channel for data via a primary rate interface (PRI) T-1 line. All calls coming through that pipe are switched by the Sierra Vista Campus PBX and delivered to a district user within the network. The Benson Center has three networked extension numbers that are reached internally by dialing directly to them and four numbers that allow for local dialing service around the Benson area. The Willcox Center has a similar capability. The Fort Huachuca and Prison Education Centers' phone numbers are dependant on separate phone systems supported by the U.S. Army and the Department of Corrections respectively. The Nogales Center has three analog trunks directly tied-in to the Nogales Central Office. On each one of the main campuses, the College has retained seven local numbers to support additional calls in case the PRI channels are occupied. These numbers are directly tied in to the Sierra Vista and Douglas' central offices while calls being routed via the PRI are being switched from the Sierra Vista central office only. For easy identification, most numbers on the Sierra Vista Campus list with a 5XXX, on the Douglas Campus and Willcox Center with a 4XXX, and at the Benson Center with a 3XXX. The College enterprise voicemail system is CallPilot. The network manager assigned a voice mailbox to each full-time College employee that is configured to store a total of five minutes worth of audio, including messages and greeting. Click here in order to view detailed voicemail usage instructions. Long-distance services are provided by Qwest Communications. In order to make a long-distance call, an access code is required. A service request must be submitted in order to request an access code. Once approved, the requestor will receive the code and instructions via email.
