Library Guidelines and Policies
Principles
- Libraries are a place for learning--formal, recreational, or accidental.
- Information literacy is the ability to access and evaluate information.
- Learning is an activity, not a body of knowledge.
- The role of librarians has changed from merely providing and warehousing information to teaching individuals how to access, evaluate, and integrate appropriate information.
- Critical to providing information services for learning is an understanding and acceptance of diverse learning styles.
- The underlying principle of the libraries is Information Literacy.
Procedures
Library Access Free to Cochise College students and personnel. Non-student Cochise County residents pay one-time fee of $3 and show proof of residency.

Fines The Libraries do charge fines for overdue materials, damaged materials and lost date due cards. Patrons losing materials must pay for the materials plus a processing fee.

Fax Fax equipment in the Libraries is intended for use by Cochise College employees only for College related business. Book Checkout Patrons may check out books for 21 days. These book may be renewed if not requested by another patron. Reserve books circulate for periods designated by instructors. Some reference books circulate overnight with a librarian's permission. Overnight check-outs are due at 9:00 a.m. the next working day. Patrons should complete a "Library Registration Form" before checking out books for the first time. Most reference books and all periodicals are for use in the library buildings only.
Media Checkout Students, faculty and staff may check out selected video cassettes/DVDs for 7 days. Audio cassettes check out for 3 weeks. These items may be renewed if not requested by another patron. Most reference media is for use in the library buildings only by students or may be checkout by faculty members. Fines for overdue media items are $1.00 per day. Patrons should complete a "Library Registration Form" before checking out media for the first time. County patrons and public users may not check out video cassettes or DVDs.
Copyright Guidelines The Cochise College Libraries strictly adhere to all copyright laws and regulations. The Libraries will not duplicate copyrighted video tapes, audio tapes, etc. without written permission from the publisher. The Libraries ask patrons using College photocopiers to read the posted information regarding copyright. Copyright violations may result in loss of library privileges.
