2008 Writing Contest Guidelines

Note: You must be registered for the Creative Writing Celebration in order to participate in the contest.

  1. There are three contest categories: poetry, short story, and non-fiction. All submitted writing must be the original, unpublished work of the person entering the contest.
  2. There is a $5 reading fee for each entry. Authors may enter in more than one category, but a separate $5 fee must accompany each entry.
  3. All contest entries, registration forms, and fees must be received by February 22, 2008. All contestants must also be registered for the writing celebration.
  4. Entries will not be accepted for reading until registration forms and fees for the celebration are received.
  5. Prose entries are limited to 10 typed, double-spaced pages per entry – approximately 2,500 words.
  6. Each poetry entry may include up to three poems for a total of up to five pages, typed, single- or double-spaced.
  7. The author’s name should not appear on the manuscript, as entries will be judged anonymously. Each entry must include a separate title page bearing title(s) and category of entry and the author’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail address.
  8. Entries must be typed (word processed) on standard white paper in black ink. Electronic submissions are preferred.
  9. Submit hard copy entries to:

                  Attach your entry and your cover page.

  1. Winners will be announced, and cash prizes will be awarded as part of celebration events on Saturday, March 29. The amount of the awards will depend on the number of contest entries.
  2. Authors may include a stamped, self-addressed envelope for return of manuscripts, or authors may pick up entries at closing ceremonies on March 29.
