Financial Aid Reinstatement and Refunds
Financial Aid Probation Probation is a warning that you have not completed the minimum credits or that you have a cumulative grade point average below 2.0. If you are on probation, you may still receive financial aid. If you do not pass the minimum required credits during the next semester, you may be suspended from financial aid and will be ineligible to receive financial aid. Financial Aid Suspension If you have been placed on probation and do not successfully complete the conditions of the probation you may be put on financial aid suspension. Once you have been suspended from financial aid, you must use your own resources until a 2.0 grade point average is reached, or you must satisfactorily complete the required credit hours before applying for reinstatement of eligibility.
Appeal of Suspension You may appeal in writing to the Financial Aid Office. It is your responsibility to know if your grade reports, when compared to the satisfactory progress standards, will cause immediate suspension of your financial aid. It is not the responsibility of the Financial Aid Office to notify you. Further, it is your responsibility to notify the Financial Aid Office when reinstatement conditions have been met or to initiate an appeal.
Reinstatement of Financial Aid If your suspension time has elapsed or you have successfully corrected the deficiency, you must notify the Financial Aid Office. Reinstatement of aid will be subject to funds available at the time the completed file is reviewed.
Non-Degree Students A non-degree student is by definition not considered to be in a program and is, therefore, not eligible for financial aid.
Withdrawal/Refunds and Repayments If you receive federal financial aid funds, you are subject to the federal refund policy. If you completely withdraw before completing 60 percent of the term, you are subject to this policy and will probably owe a repayment of the unearned portion of your grant funds. You have 45 days to return the funds to Cochise College. If repayment is not made during the 45 days, the repayment owed will be turned over to the Department of Education for collection. Once a repayment is turned over to the Department of Education, eligibility for additional federal aid is suspended until satisfactory payment arrangements are made. Pell grant, SEOG, and LEAP (Arizona state grant) are subject to this repayment provision. The amount of the repayment is determined by a sliding scale calculation based on the amount of aid paid minus the number of days you attended school.
Remember, you are responsible for knowing your requirements to maintain eligibility. If you have any questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (520) 515-5417.
