Placement and Assessment

Your success in college depends upon placement in courses best suited to your academic skill levels. Applicants to Cochise College must complete placement assessment before registering for courses with academic skills prerequisites.

We ask that you take placement assessments in the areas of English, reading, computer and mathematics prior to meeting with an advisor and registering. You should test if you are:

  • Planning to register for a course with an English, computer or mathematics prerequisite, or
  • Seeking a degree and have completed seven or more credits at Cochise.

Placement assessment may be waived if:

  • You provide a transcript or diploma showing completion of an accredited associate's or higher degree; or
  • You are a transfer student whose official transcripts show completed coursework in a corresponding subject with a grade of C or better.

If you believe the assessment process has not measured your academic skills accurately, you may:

  • Repeat the same or alternative College-approved assessment test(s), a maximum of one per semester, OR
  • Submit a written appeal to the vice president for instruction/provost or designee following established guidelines. The decision of the vice president for instruction/provost is final.
