Proposition 300

Follow these steps to verify your citizenship
Cochise College has revised its registration procedure for credit classes to comply with requirements of Proposition 300. Approved by Arizona voters last November, Prop. 300 requires verification of eligibility for in-state tuition rates for U.S. citizens and qualifying legal immigrants.

Under the new procedure, all students registering for credit classes at Cochise College will be required to complete a one-time Tuition Assessment Form.

The form offers three options:

  • A student can refer the College to the federal database for verification from a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form on file.
  • A student can request eligibility for in-state tuition and then provide a passport, Arizona driver’s license issued after October 1, 1996, or other appropriate documents from the verification list.
  • A student can state on the form that he or she is not seeking to qualify for in-state tuition.

Students will need to complete the new tuition assessment process only once. The process applies to students registering for any class(es) effective summer session 2007.

Summer classes begin Tuesday, May 29, 2007. Fall semester classes begin August 20, 2007.

Students enrolled in summer classes who do not complete the new tuition assessment process by the end of their current term of registration will have a hold placed on their class grades and official College transcript. Failure to complete the tuition form will result in the student being charged out-of-state tuition rates.

Students enrolled for fall classes have until Wednesday, August 1, 2007, to complete the tuition assessment form. Failure to complete the tuition form will result in the student being charged out-of-state tuition rates. All students should complete the tuition assessment form even if they are not seeking to qualify for in-state tuition rates.

The tuition assessment process does not apply to non-credit students, with the exception of adult education classes. There are also no changes to the College’s admissions procedures or domicile requirements.

For part-time Cochise College students, out-of-state tuition is approximately 50 percent higher than in-state tuition. Out-of-state tuition for students taking seven or more credits is approximately five times the in-state tuition rate.

Tuition Assessment Forms, a list of qualifying documentation to verify eligibility, information and assistance are available at the Admissions and Registration Office at all College campuses and centers and at the links below.
