I’m interested in taking online classes. How do I get started?

Then, click here to take learn more about the Online Campus and to take the online readiness assessment.

Once you have your results, email them to the online counselor at advising@cochise.edu

What is a placement test and do I need to take it?
A placement test is used to accurately place you in math, reading, and English courses. If you have met the prerequisites for a course with another college or university, you can register for math and English courses without a placement test. However, if it is your first time to take college math and English courses, you will need the placement test.

To take a placement test, please contact the Testing Center at testing@cochise.edu. We will help you arrange a time/place to take the test. The test is free to all students, and distance is not a problem.

How can I register or add/drop classes online?

  • Click INFOnline on the Cochise College home page or on the right side of this screen.
  • Click Student Information.
  • Follow the directions to enter your Cochise College user ID and PIN. If you do not remember your PIN, contact the online counselor at advising@cochise.edu.
  • Once you are in the secure area, click Student Services.
  • Click Registration.
  • You can then look up classes to add. Once you have the course information, you can choose to add the class (or drop) and enter the information.
  • When add/drops are complete, click the Submit Changes button.
  • When returned to the page, click Complete Registration. If you fail to click this link after any add/drop activity, you run the risk of losing your registration.
  • If you get a message that you are not eligible to register, click Check your Registration Status at the bottom of the list. This will let you know why you cannot register (holds, academic advising, etc.)

Make sure you pay for your classes by the close of business on the day you register. To pay for your class, contact the Business Office at (800) 966-7943, Ext. 5416, or (520) 515-5416. If you do not make payment by close of business on the day you register, you could be dropped for non-payment.

I’m registered for classes now. What should I do next?
Order your textbooks through the Cochise College bookstore. Select  the Textbooks tab near the top of the page. This identifies the textbooks needed for your classes and instructions for ordering them. Follow the steps to order and pay for your books.

Then, contact your instructor by email. This email will likely be the first notification for the instructor! You'll need to contact your instructor again after you have the text and any supporting materials. You can find your instructor's email address in our printed class schedule.

Next, explore your Cochise College Blackboard account. The College uses Blackboard to provide its online instruction. You may also use Blackboard as a part of a traditional class. Your Blackboard account will be created for you about a week before the start of class, and you can access it at http://solo.cochise.edu/. Log in with your new Cochise College user ID number (EXAMPLE: C00000000) and password (your birth date in MMDDYY format). You should also change your password as soon as you access your account the first time in order to protect your work.

Note: If you have a Blackboard account from previous terms, it is no longer active.

When you log into Blackboard, you will see all of the classes you registered for listed on your home page. Click on any of the class names to access information for that class. Not all Cochise College instructors use Blackboard, so some of the classes listed on your home page may be empty.

Begin by exploring your course. Make sure you understand what is required and when it is due. Most students print out the entire course as a reference. You can also get a student manual for Blackboard at http://support.blackboard.com/. Click on Student. There are web based and printable student manuals. The Online Campus has printed copies available as well. Develop a schedule that will allow you to complete the work in the required time. If you don’t understand, contact your instructor immediately. Maintain regular communications with your instructor.

Communicate with the instructor whenever you need to submit assignments or when you need advice or answers to questions. Most are available by phone, fax, and regular mail as well as email. Often, you'll also have the option of using course forums or discussion pages to share comments and questions with other students taking the course.

Once I've started my course, are there special resources available to online students?
Yes! There are many special resources available to our online students. Check out the following information and links:

  • Online Student Union
As you enroll in an online course, you will automatically be enrolled in the Online Student Union. The Online Student Union will appear along with your other courses in Blackboard. However, it is not a "class", i.e., no grades and no obligations. It is simply a free service for all online students. It contains a help desk, where you can quickly get answers to your online questions/problems. It also contains discussion boards where you can just chat with fellow online students. You will find links to the career explorations tool, transfer requirements....the list goes on and on! So check it out!
  • Online Counseling/Advising
You online counselor is Kimberly Kozubovska. She can be reached via email at advising@cochise.edu. Feel free to seek advising/counseling throughout the semester.
  • e-Library Services
There are online journals (most of them are full text), online encyclopedias, links to online libraries, government sources, news sources, online books, etc. A link to the Cochise College library is located on the right side of every Cochise College web page.
  • Online Writing Lab (OWL)
This is a great resource for students who need help with papers, but can't stop by the writing lab on campus. Click here to go now!

  • INFOnline
You may remember that you went to INFOnline to register for classes, but there are many other online services available to students from INFOnline. A link to INFOnline is located on the right side of every Cochise College web page. Click it to go to Student Information, and enter the secured site with your username and PIN. Contact the online counselor if you have questions. From INFOnline you can view your schedule, add/drop classes, pay on your account, view upcoming courses, and much more! Check it out!
