Chronological Resume

Chronological Resume
A chronological resume is a sequential timeline of experience and education. It is a personal decision whether your experience or education should be listed first. Most people  make the decision by evaluating their education and experience to see which area they feel would be the most applicable to the position they are seeking. This way an employer will read your objective, or summary of qualifications, first, then immediately read why you feel that you are prepared to fulfill the objective.

Dates: When listing dates of employment, it is best to list them using years only, instead of listing months. For example: Customer Service Representative, 2002-2004, instead of Customer Service Representative, June, 2002-January, 2004. By listing the years only, you will give the impression of a longer time frame.

Title: The title can be either the place of your employment or your specific job title. Most people use their specific job title, but if you feel that your place of employment is more impressive than the job title, then it is acceptable to use it. Whichever you choose must be used throughout the entire resume.

Specifics: Make sure to be as specific as possible. If there are specific companies that you have dealt with, name the companies. If you work with specific technical equipment, make sure to name it, but only if it is related to the position you are seeking. The more specific you are in your resume, the easier it will be for the employer to find a common interest with you. Whenever possible, use facts and figures to grab the employer’s attention. For example, you could list something like "personally generated 15 new sales a day for three consecutive months." Numbers offer concrete statements about your productivity as an employee.

Vocabulary: If you know “inside” terminology, use it to signal to employers that you are an experienced professional with first-hand knowledge of the business. Additionally, this makes the resume more authentic. If you are not 100 percent sure of the terminology, LEAVE IT OUT.

Job Descriptions: Responsibilities, skills learned, and distinctions earned are listed below your title and dates. They should be as clear and concise as possible.

Promotions: When you have been promoted, put the company name first and then list every subsequent position in chronological order, including job history, after each. Make sure to list the most recent position first.
