Honors Program Assessment

Assessment Tools for Honors Program

  • Committee evaluates proposed honors projects before approving honors contracts. The review includes:
    • 15-20 hours per credit
    • clearly stated criteria
    • measurable objectives and goals
  • Feedback forms are administered to students and faculty.
  • Website displays proposed and completed projects as examples of project outcomes.
  • End-of-semester receptions showcase academic achievement and accomplishment of project outcomes.
  • Fall and spring honors colloquium showcases academic and creative achievement and accomplishment of project outcomes with a videotape record.

Assessment Possibilities

  • Use classroom assessment techniques in honors classes.
  • Add a page or pages to show the “flow” of a typical honors project (Anatomy of an Honors Project).
  • Post “Basic Characteristics of a Fully Developed Honors Program” on our website as an attainable goal or standard for our present program.
  • Review and post “Short- and Long-Term Plan for Honors” on our website.
  • Research and review honors self-assessment accomplished by other colleges.
  • Arrange visit by outside (state or national) organization.
  • Invite former honors students to provide feedback about their honors experience at Cochise College.
