Tech Prep

Tech Prep is a federally funded Carl Perkins vocational grant administered by the Arizona Department of Education, Career and Technical Education Division. The program networks community college and high school career and technical education programs in a coordinated sequence of instruction to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors they need to compete successfully in the technologically advanced workplace of tomorrow.

The Cochise College Compact Program
The Compact Program builds career pathways for Cochise County high school students. Qualified students interested in skilled occupations or technical careers have the opportunity to begin their education at Cochise College while still in high school.

Students pay a significantly reduced rate for qualifying courses. Students are responsible for 50 percent of tuition, lab, and registration fees and 100 percent of any required insurance, drug screening and fingerprinting fees. Funding is provided by Cochise College and The Wolslager Foundation.

Students may choose from courses in the areas of accounting, agriculture, aerospace thermal fusion/welding, avionics, automotive technology, building and construction technology, business, computer information systems, computer networking, computer programming, web design, computer repair, culinary arts,  digital media arts, drafting, early childhood education, education professions, HVAC, emergency medical technology, medical or nursing assistant, fire science, professional administrative assistant, and welding.

Compact Program Eligibility
To qualify, students must:

  • Take a complete college placement assessment covering reading, math and English
  • Be in good academic standing at their high school
  • Be interested in an occupational or technical career
  • Meet any course prerequisites required for the class
  • Complete and turn in the Compact Program agreement packet.

It is recommended that students have completed at least two vocational/occupational classes at their high school. Charter, private, and home-schooled students also may participate.
