What kind of exhibit or workshop would be right for this event?
There is no single kind of activity that would be best. It will depend on your interests and what you want students to understand about your particular field of expertise. Great activities will …
Can someone help me plan an exhibit or activities?
Yes! We would be happy to speak with you about some of the things that would make a great exhibit. We can give examples of what others have done, or we can start from scratch to help you plan an activity that gets students involved in learning and showcases how you use math, science, engineering or technology.
How should I set up my exhibit or workshop?
The type of setup you choose will depend on the kind of activity you choose to bring. Most exhibits will fall into one of three general types:
How much space will I have for my exhibit or activity?
Indoor: The basic space will be about 20 feet by 10 feet. Additional space can generally be made available if you specify. The registration form gives you an opportunity to give us information about the space you need for your demonstration or workshop.
Outdoor: These spaces would be appropriate for exhibits that are loud, have strong odors, have a likelihood of getting water or hard-to-clean materials on the floor or for use of large equipment. Outdoor spaces will have access to electrical power if it is requested with the registration.
What should I bring?
Exhibitors will specify the type of setup they want when they register. You can also specify requests for tables, seating, electrical outlets, etc. The college can provide a limited number of TV monitors, but participants should plan to bring their own electronics for their exhibit/workshop (laptops, projectors, etc.). Exhibitors also need to provide any supplies for workshops or labs. The campus has WiFi available. Some wall space may be used for hanging if tape or similar materials that do not damage the surface or leave a residue are used. You are free to bring any display aids such as stands or easels.
Can we sell or give away things to students and teachers?
Because we are providing a field trip for area schools, we do not allow you to sell any type of goods at the Experience. You may bring reference materials to hand out to students and teachers. Handouts or giveaways advertising your organization and the work/service they provide are also encouraged. Each student will be given a plastic bag that can be used to collect various handouts and giveaways. Be sure that any materials that are distributed are age appropriate and non-offensive.
