Free Film Showing – Wind River – Sierra Vista Campus

November 7 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, Cochise College’s Multicultural Film Series will present Wind River. The film is a chilling thriller that follows a rookie FBI agent (Elizabeth Olsen) who teams up with a local game tracker with deep community ties and a haunted past (Jeremy Renner) to investigate the murder of a local girl on a remote Native American Reservation in the hopes of solving her mysterious death.

The film, set in the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming, has an all-star Native cast, including Graham Greene, Gil Birmingham, and Tantoo Cardinal. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the film “opens  up a world that most of us have never thought about and renders it with sorrow and vividness.”

In an NPR interview, the writer and director, Taylor Sheridan, says this narrative  is based on thousands of real-life stories and that “as a nation, as a society, the problems affecting anyone in that society are a problem affecting everyone in that society.”

In a Rolling Stone interview, Sheridan says he would like to “leave people with something to think – and think hard – about. My job is not to give you all the answers.  My job is to ask the questions.”

For the Sierra Vista area, the film will be shown on Thursday, November 7, at 6 pm in the Horace Steele Room (in the Library Building) on Cochise College’s Sierra Vista Campus.

The public is invited to this free event, and light snacks will be provided. The film is rated R and is 111 minutes long. This event is sponsored by Cochise College’s Humanities/Fine Arts Department and the Multicultural Film Series. For more information, contact Tanya Biami at (520) 515-5316.
