Pilot Pathways

Aviation Pathways

Cochise College pathway students apply to become cadets with our regional partners as soon as they complete their private pilot certificate. Once they are certified flight instructors they can transition to “Cadet Instructor” status with the regional airline. This opportunity, along with flight instructing positions with Cochise College, will afford them the opportunity to build the required flight hours to obtain the R-ATP certificate.

Once they have completed the associate degree with an aviation major and logged 1250 hours of flight time, the cadet instructors transition to the regional airline as a first officer. During the time they instruct for us, they can earn tuition reimbursement from the regional airline of $625 for every 100 hours of flight time beyond 500 hours up to the 1250 hour total.

Additionally, while they serve as a flight instructor for Cochise College they are paid. This is a benefit that allows them to obtain their instrument instructor at a reduced cost.
