How do I know if my class is registered?
Using the contact information provided during registration, teachers will be notified whether their group can be accommodated and registration will be confirmed. If, as we anticipate, there are more groups than we can accommodate, those groups will have the option of being placed on a waiting list in the event that there are cancellations.
What if we register, but cannot attend?
We understand. If a teacher who is registered and has been confirmed decides her or his class will not be coming, email or call immediately so we can contact teachers on the waiting list.
Are there any funds that can help us with transportation expenses?
Yes. With support from Science Foundation Arizona, we can offer actual transportation costs up to $250 per district. Make sure to mark this option when registering and we will send you the required form.
How do we find the campus and navigate it while there?
Teachers who are registered will be sent a packet that will include a map of the area, a detailed map of the Cochise College Sierra Vista Campus showing parking and exhibit areas, and additional information prior to the event. While on campus, Cochise College student guides can help with directions.
What kind of supervision do teachers need to provide?
Teachers should bring at least one chaperone for each group of eight to 10 students. Each group should plan to stay together and make decisions about what to do as a group. Some exhibits will be outside and in different buildings around campus, so close supervision is the best way to make sure students get the most out of the day and don’t get lost.
Will students be able to eat during the Experience?
While the College has a snack bar, beverage vending machines and Bookstore, for several reasons, we suggest that you discourage students from using these. There will be areas where students can eat snacks or lunches they bring.
Will there be media coverage of the event?
Cochise College will be taking photos and video, and news media will be invited. Because parents/guardians must give permission to allow their children to be photographed, a copy of a standard media release form will be sent to teachers who are registered. Teachers must make sure that a release form is completed and signed by the parent/guardian for each student who will be attending. These will be collected from the teacher when the group arrives on campus and signs in.
Will there be things for students and teachers to buy?
Exhibitors are not permitted to sell anything. Exhibitors may provide give-away items.
