Award-winning author to lead AI Workshop for Educators

Article

Cochise College Division of Academic Affairs will host award-winning author and higher education innovator Dr. José Antonio Bowen for a free educational workshop, “Get Hands On With AI: Transforming & Learning,” from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, March 4, at the Sierra Vista Campus in the Student Union Community Room. This workshop kicks off a series of event programming titled “Classrooms Reimagined: AI for Educators” that will take place over the next 18 months.

Dr. Bowen, a leader in education innovation, has worked with colleges and universities for over 40 years. His expertise extends beyond academia, providing consulting and training for Fortune 500 companies. His latest book, Teaching with AI, co-authored with C. Edward Watson, serves as the foundation for this hands-on workshop, exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming teaching and learning in the classroom.

“This workshop is designed to help educators receive practical information on how to harness AI as a tool,” said Dr. Wendy Ashby, Instructional Designer at the college’s Faculty Support Center. “By understanding how AI impacts learning and assessment, teachers can create engaging educational experiences and become critical evaluators and users of AI classroom tools.”

Open to all Cochise County educators and administrators at any level, the workshop will include hands-on activities, research-based insights and practical strategies for integrating AI into the classroom. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in discussions and apply AI tools within their own teaching and student support functions.

“This is a great opportunity for local educators and student support personnel to gain valuable knowledge from one of the foremost experts in teaching innovation,” added Ashby. “Dr. Bowen’s work is shaping the future of education, and this workshop will help equip participants with the skills they need to navigate AI’s role in learning.”

The workshop is free and made possible through a Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative Foundation grant. Pre-registration is required due to limited space and is on a first-come, first-served basis at https://formurl.com/to/BowenAI
