Cochise Newsroom
Cochise College will host two AI Community Learning Events on Tuesday, March 24, at
the Douglas Campus, offering hands-on guidance for teachers, families, and students
who want to better understand the use of artificial intelligence.
The events will take place in the Business Building, rooms 208 and 209, and online
via Zoom. Dr. Wendy Ashby said, "The goal is simple. The college would like to make
AI practical, accessible and relevant for our communities."
The first workshop, "Your New AI Teaching Assistant," will be held from 4 p.m. to
5:30 p.m. and is designed for K-12 teachers, college faculty and school staff. The
session will show educators how to reduce administrative work and reclaim time for
students.
Participants will learn how to use AI to draft emails, generate lesson plans, and
create grading rubrics. The session will also show how to adapt class materials for
English as a Second Language (ESL) students. "Attendees will leave with a take-home
toolkit," Dr. Ashby said. "They will receive a ready-made 'Teacher Support' packet to
guide your teaching and administrative activities using AI."
The second session, "What is AI and Why Should I Care?" will be held from 6 p.m. to
7:30 p.m. and is open to parents, families, students, and the ESL community. The workshop
will cover Understanding AI, Safety and Ethics and Homework Support.
Both sessions will be offered in English and Spanish.
These events are funded through a special grant from Sulphur Springs Valley Electric
Cooperative Foundation and brought to you by the Cochise College Academic Affairs
Department.
Limited computer space is available, and signing up is encouraged. The events are
free and open to the public.
